Child Dental Benefit Scheme (CDBS) 2017
Recent changes have been introduced to the Child Dental Benefit Scheme, eligible children commencing a new cap period in 2017 will have access to a benefit cap of up to $700 over a 2 year calendar period.
The CDBS commenced in 2014 with the aim to provide access to basic dental services to eligible children between 2 and 17 years old based on a means test. In 2017, the benefit has been reduced from $1,000 per child over 2 calendar years, to $700 per child over the same period.
Children commencing a new cap period in 2017 will have access to a benefit cap of up to $700 over a two-calendar year period. Children who commenced a cap period in 2016 will continue to access the remainder of a benefit cap of up to $1,000 until 31 December 2017, provided the child is eligible for the CDBS in 2017.
The CDBS provides dental benefits for preventative dental services (x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealings, fillings), root canals and extractions.
